Birth of the Blues
March 6 @ 3:00 pm

This piano lecture recital features Dr. Peter Muir, a versatile international pianist, conductor, educator and musicologist. He possesses an impressively broad repertoire embracing blues, ragtime and classical. The New York Times described his talent as “potent” and Newsday praised his “terrific” performances.
Birth of the Blues: The Evolution and Emergence of a New Music is a compelling lecture/recital offering a new understanding of the origins and character of one of the most influential of musical genres. Coming into being in the American South in the early years of the 20th century, Dr. Muir draws on ground breaking research showing its development & interrelationship with rags and jazz. A recital that combines virtuosity and musicality in equal measure and which is held together by a compelling narrative.
