In the realm of daily human life, food is more than simple nourishment. Food is an art, a business cultural artifact, a marker of individual identity, and a medium of social interaction. When food serves the purpose of communication, it can speak the many languages of love. In this film discussion series, we’ll explore how movies express a spectrum of emotions – friendship, brotherly attention, family ties, maternal love, and romance – through food. Each session will feature film clips from two or more movies, each representing a different culture in which food plays a central role.
The discussion is led by Dr. William Costanzo, a SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor of English and Film. He is the author of six books on writing and film, including his latest, When the World Laughs: Film Comedy East an West.
