‘S Wonderful: Gershwin as Songwriter

Back by popular demand, Dr. Peter Muir will present another entertaining and informative piano/lecture recital on Zoom. This time the program will explore the colossal talent of arguably the greatest of American songwriters, George Gershwin (1898-1937). We will examine aspects of Gershwin songwriting from his first hit “Swannee” (1919) all the way through to his last completed song “I Was Doing Alright,” completed shortly his tragically early death in 1937. Illustrated with inspiring live performances and a detailed examination of milestone songs, Dr. Muir offer new insight into Gershwin’s genius.
Dr. Muir is a versatile international pianist, conductor, and educator with a Ph.D in Musicology. He has an impressively broad repertoire embracing jazz, blues, ragtime, and classical. The NY Times described his playing as “potent” and Newsday praised his “terrific” performance.
