Melodies & Masterpieces – an Inclusive Connections event

September 28 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Melodies & Masterpieces: An Inclusive Connections Experience

Join us for a sensory-friendly morning of music and art, designed to create a welcoming and engaging environment for our neurodivergent community members. This program, the second in our ‘Inclusive Connections’ series, offers a unique blend of musical therapy and creative expression.

The event will unfold in two parts:

Sensory Music Therapy with Kurt Gallagher (30 minutes)
Beloved musical performer Kurt Gallagher will lead a gentle, interactive music session. Participants will be invited to join in with provided instruments, creating a collaborative musical experience. The soft, soothing tones will help create a calm and comfortable atmosphere for all attendees.

Pre-drawn Painting Activity (30 minutes)
Following the music, attendees will have the opportunity to express their creativity through a pre-drawn painting activity. Similar to paint-by-numbers but without the numbers, this approach allows for individual expression while removing the potential stress of starting with a blank canvas.

This program is specifically designed to be inclusive and accommodating for neurodivergent individuals. We aim to provide a supportive environment where everyone can enjoy the therapeutic benefits of music and art at their own pace and comfort level.

Join us for an afternoon of harmony, color, and community connection. All materials will be provided, and no prior musical or artistic experience is necessary. Everyone is welcome!

This event is made possible through a grant from the American Library Association: “Libraries Transforming Communities” which provides community engagement and accessibility resources to small and rural libraries to help them better serve people with disabilities. Thanks to this grant, the library is able to offer these special programs, acquire sensory toys, a sensory tent, sensory activity boxes, noise-cancelling headphones, talking books, and various other technologies to support non-neurotypical individuals. Coming soon: we’re excited to introduce a Sensory Room, with more enhancements and programming to come.
