At Pound Ridge Library, inclusion is at the heart of everything we do. Too often, families of neurodivergent children struggle to find welcoming spaces. To address this, we’ve created a Sensory Room—a space open to all, but intentionally designed with neurodivergent children in mind.

This space is more than a room; it’s a refuge. Outfitted with plush furnishings, a sensory wall, interactive light feature, sensory toys, noise-canceling headphones, and calming design elements, it offers a welcoming environment where our young neurodivergent patrons and their families can feel safe, engaged, and included. Families who often struggle to find accessible spaces now have a place where their children can not only relax but also thrive.

Since opening, the Sensory Room has become one of the most popular initiatives we’ve ever launched, drawing visitors from neighboring towns. Parents and caregivers often tell us how meaningful it is to have a place where their children feel they belong. It has also become a hub for broader community connection—bridging families, sparking conversations, and reducing social isolation.

Come experience it for yourself! Whenever the library doors are open, so is the Sensory Room—offering comfort and connection at any time.
