Nature as Muse

Celebrating nature’s role in inspiring writers, three local poets will share a few of their
poems, speak about their influences and writing process, then take questions from attendees.
Come join us as we observe National Poetry Month and Earth Day in a unique presentation by three local poets, celebrating the influence of the natural world on our poetic world.  Meet the writers andoets:

Leisha Douglas’s short stories and poems have been published in The Alembic,
The Cortland Review, decomP, Helix, The Minetta Review, Sanskrit, Thin Air Journal,
The Midwest Quarterly and Upstreet as well as various other journals. Her poetry has
been nominated for a Pushcart Prize as well as anthologized. She is the Poet Advisor to
the long running, renowned Katonah Poetry Series (KPS), which has brought us the
world’s great poets for the past 50 + years.

In 2014, Katherine Dering published a mixed-genre memoir, Shot in the Head, a
Sister’s Memoir a Brother’s Struggle (Bridgeross). Her poetry chapbook, Aftermath, was
published by Finishing Line Press in 2018. She has also published poems and essays in
various literary journals and serves on the executive committee of the Katonah Poetry
Scott Mason is the author of The Wonder Code: Discover the Way of Haiku and
See the World with New Eyes, recipient of the Kirkus Star from Kirkus Reviews. A former
editor with the online haiku journal The Heron’s Nest, he currently serves on the board of
The Haiku Foundation. Scott’s own poems have claimed the top award in more than two
dozen international haiku competitions. Scott also serves on the KPS committee.
