The World through Cinematic Animation
Animated films can speak to both children and adults, sometimes simultaneously. This deceptively simple form of storytelling is an appealing way to explore history, politics, ethics, and the arts from various cultural perspectives. It’s also a way to focus on aesthetics, how thousands of carefully crafted still frames create the magic of motion pictures. In this two-part series, we will explore selected scenes of landmark films by artists from the U.S., Mexico, Israel, Iran, India, Japan, and China. Presented by Dr. William Costanzo, you won’t want to miss either session of this fascinating exploration of the popularity of cinematic animation and its impact on our cultural perspective.
Dr. Costanzo is the SUNY Distinguished Professor of English & Film and the author of six books on writing and film. He is currently working on another book to be published in the spring
